The Art of TaniDaReal

Since I was a kid I've been a fan of animal and anthropomorphic animal characters. I have always enjoyed drawing and watching a lot of cartoons / animated movies, which inspired me to draw the characters. Some of my favorite films / animated series I did fanart for were for example:

  • The foxes of "The Animals of Farthing Wood"
  • The wolves of UFA's junglebook
  • Balto
  • The Lion King
Eventually I started creating my own characters and stories, and pretty much stopped drawing existing movie characters. Though I once in a while still enjoy drawing them as fan art, but in my own style.

It's a great motivation to have the possibility to create worlds, characters, express feelings, illustrate situations, make others smile, laugh or cry (in a positive / artistic way).

What's gives me inspiration and motivation for drawing? Pretty much everything if you keep your eyes and ears open. That can be funny, awkward situations, real life experiences, extraordinary sceneries, song lyrics, memories and emotions, the story of a book or movie... ideas can be found everywhere. Sometimes I can’t come up with something for days, then suddenly there is a flow of ideas, which I usually write down in form of a brainstorming list.

One of my artistic role models is Aaron Blaise, an animator and character designer for Disney, famous for his expressive way he draws characters, from simple sketches to fully colored digital art, as well as animations and studies. Another series of books that inspired me is “The Daily Zoo” by Chris Ayers.
